Unlimited PTO

Unlimited PTO is a time-off policy that does not assign employees a fixed annual bank of vacation days, allowing eligible employees to request time off within the policy’s guidelines.

Unlimited PTO does not mean time off without limits or approval. Employers still need clear expectations around requesting leave, coverage, performance, and how the policy interacts with sick leave and other legally protected absences. State law can also affect how an unlimited policy is treated, so the written policy and actual administration should match.
