VTO (Voluntary Time Off)

Voluntary time off, or VTO, is an employer program that allows employees to take approved unpaid time away from work, often when staffing needs are lower.

VTO can give employers more flexibility during slower periods while giving employees the option to take additional time away. A policy should explain who is eligible, how VTO is requested or offered, whether benefits or accruals are affected, and how employees return to their normal schedules. VTO should also be kept distinct from protected leave and other required time-off programs.
