How to convert an employee to an independent contractor (and back again)

Shows how to switch a worker between employee and independent contractor from the General Profile on the People page. Explains what the system carries over and the onboarding form it routes you through.

Convert a worker from the People page: open their General Profile, click the ellipsis icon, then choose Convert to Independent Contractor or Convert to Active Employee. The system then routes you through the onboarding form.

What happens during a conversion

In both directions, the system retrieves the existing person and position information for the worker from the database. During the conversion procedure, the system routes you through the onboarding form so you can review the existing person and position information and enter new employment records.

Note: After you convert an employee to an independent contractor, and depending on your benefits setup of event rule classes for termination, the benefits of the person are terminated.
