Colorado is one of the strict states. Under C.R.S. 8-4-109, an employee you terminate must be paid on the day of discharge; someone who resigns gets more room. In full: Fired: immediately, or within 6 hours of the start of the next workday if the accounting unit is closed. Quit: next regular payday. Pick the separation type, enter the last day and your next payday, and the calculator returns the latest date you can legally pay. Accrued PTO payout is a separate Colorado rule and is not included. Related: the Colorado minimum wage, the HR compliance risk check for the termination process, and the all-state calculator. Nearby: Utah, New Mexico and Arizona.
CoAd Pay issues off-cycle final checks the same day, applies the state deadline and PTO rule, and files the paperwork. HR support for the termination is one add-on away.
