There is no federal deadline for a final paycheck, so the state where the employee works sets it, and nine states want the money on the day you let someone go. Resignations usually get more time, and in California, Oregon, New Hampshire and Hawaii the notice the employee gave changes the answer. Pick the state and separation type, enter the last day and your next regular payday, and the calculator returns the latest date you can legally pay, with the statute paraphrased underneath. PTO payout is a separate state rule and is not included. For the termination process itself, start with the HR compliance risk check.
CoAd Pay issues off-cycle final checks the same day, applies the state deadline and PTO rule, and files the paperwork. HR support for the termination is one add-on away.
