In District of Columbia, D.C. Code 32-1303 gives you until the end of the next business day to pay a terminated employee, with the next regular payday for a resignation. In full: Fired: next working day. Quit: next payday or within 7 days, whichever is earlier. Pick the separation type, enter the last day and your next payday, and the calculator returns the latest date you can legally pay. Accrued PTO payout is a separate District of Columbia rule and is not included. Related: the District of Columbia minimum wage, the HR compliance risk check for the termination process, and the all-state calculator. Nearby: Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.
CoAd Pay issues off-cycle final checks the same day, applies the state deadline and PTO rule, and files the paperwork. HR support for the termination is one add-on away.
